VINCITORE DEL PREMIO BELGIOIOSO GIALLO 2010
Nel 1978 il giovane dottor James Grahm, responsabile del Dipartimento di Ricerca Biologica di un grande ospedale americano, sta operando misteriosi esperimenti sugli embrioni congelati, mettendo a punto una tecnica rivoluzionaria della fecondazione in vitro grazie alla quale milioni di coppie sterili potrebbero avere figli. L'ostetrica suor Mary Ashley ha però forti sospetti sull eticità dei metodi del l'ospedale e indaga alla sua maniera: teme infatti che una notevole parte di quegli embrioni siano impropriamente utilizzati per esperimenti e poi distrutti, così come sospetta che sia in atto un criminosoe immorale traffico di fecondazioni. A distanza di sedici anni le vite di due ragazze si ritroveranno accidentalmente intrecciate in un destino comune riaffiorato quasi per caso. Sarà l ormai anziana suora a fare luce su un passato chiaro solo per pochi. Gli angeli di Rock Castle è un giallo intriso di una corposa quota narrativa e di un messaggio morale riguardante il rispetto della vita e di principi bioetici, più volte, in questi ultimi anni, oggetto di diatribe politiche e intellettuali anche feroci tra opposti schieramenti laici e religiosi.Ritmo e visività, taglio stesso narrativo e gioco incalzante dei problemi,irradiano interesse e suspense, incoronando queste pagine come più che degne di una gustosa riduzione cinematografica? Che tenga conto dello spessore, della disperazione mentale, intimizzata ed esplosiva, plastica quanto più introiettata, di personaggi come Grahm lo scienziato alienato di sé, e soprattutto suor Mary, supplice ed eroina di una grande vicenda, aspra, feroce deriva d'Etica (se non proprio d'amore) Due personaggi a parere di Plinio Perilli - davvero a tutto tondo, inopinatamente kubrickiani, che già basterebbero a nutrire di sé un gran film squartatamente contemporaneo

Mi accingo con cautela e rispetto to extend some "reading notes" just completed on the novel by Alfonso Artone.
This premise seems appropriate, because I think it is really needed very careful in judging the first work by a young man. Alfonso, in fact, little more than three decades. Prudence
which contains in itself, is clear, for other categories of judgments: encouragement, sensitivity, respect, credit ... as well as consensus and a good deal of admiration.
However I wish it was equally clear that these considerations must be made explicit only for the benefit of those who - in his first publication - has given the reader a positive impression undoubtedly sailed (and much less in the critical letterario!); e non già alla schiera sterminata di giovani e meno giovani, la gran parte aspiranti o sedicenti “eroi, naviganti, santi e poeti” che hanno ormai invaso il mercato globale, moltiplicandosi a dismisura a mezzo internet.
Detto questo, e tacitata la mia critica coscienza di critico, posso senz’altro affermare di avere letto un buon romanzo, davvero! Una bella storia scritta da un giovane che ha senza alcun dubbio la stoffa di scrittore autentico, pur con qualche blando distinguo per alcune ridondanze descrittive e per taluni passaggi forse pleonastici, ma tipici dell’ardore e della misura non ancora ben registrata di uno scrittore esordiente.
Oltretutto non era facile – ma Alfonso vi è riuscito perfectly - reconciling different themes and feelings and partly promiscuous, such as those that have been proposed and then unraveled in a complex plot that has in itself diverse and seemingly contradictory elements: such as a tender and nuanced love story, with those of a yellow intriguing and full of suspense, enriched from the original news of a nun-detective as the protagonist, and especially those with a message of high moral and religious significance - but conducted strictly secular in tone - of respect for life and defense ethics and bioethics, rather unusual today, or at least watered down.
There is therefore an extraordinary narrative flow, a great imagination and intrigued - In this novel - and a great ability and positive rhetoric in support of a core of emotional experience and full of gentle and generous piety. Even Reiter - still borderline, as I said at onset - are most often appropriate and well articulated descriptions of occasions, events, visions of places, and details are carefully measured and precise knowledge of technical, medical and scientific, that appear to be accurate and updated, as a young and versatile scholar.
The prose is always enjoyable, engaging and convincing, sometimes airy and elaborate, often involving intense flashes that affect learning or emotional tension della sfumata commozione.
Gli auguro quindi, e gli prevedo, un sicuro avvenire di scrittore, pur tenendo conto che la giungla delle pubblicazioni e dell’editoria è per se stessa un ostacolo duro e difficile da superare, ma che la tenacia e l’amore per la scrittura potranno vincere, se egli sarà accompagnato da un’incrollabile fiducia in se stesso e nel dono divino di cui è stato gratificato.

Perché questo brioso e aggrovigliato romanzo di Alfonso Artone mi ha ricordato l’epistème di Reichenbach e le sue illuminate teorizzazioni di a Modern Philosophy of Nature? absolute rhythm and visual, fast-paced narrative and cutting the same problems, spread interest and excitement, are glorified in these pages as more than worthy of tasty ... the film adaptation that takes into account the thickness of mental despair, intimizzata and explosive, plastic as introjected, characters such as Grahm alienated the scientist himself, and especially Sister Mary, pleading and heroine of a big story, harsh, fierce drift of Ethics (if not love) ... really

Raggiò insieme tutto…
Il Limbo – finalmente sì! – anche e soprattutto della poesia; che qui ci presta, ci dona a chiosa il sigillo dei cari, quasi abortiti ma infine partoriti e redenti versi di Sylvia Plath, grembo di donna e poesia, Bambino e anch’esso certo Angelo di Rock Castle.

Salinger wrote "The ones that just leave me breathless are the books that when you have finished reading and all that follows that the author would like was your friend for the skin and can call on the phone every time you run "... Of course this is not always easy: the commitment of everyone does not always allow him to Alfonso and indeed still do not know what I think of his book, I did not want to ruin a surprise.
When he asked me to attend this presentation, I found myself just to think back to the words of Salinger and the fact that I can finally get that same emotion: know the author of a book you're about to read - however - is not easy; think and if I do not like? If I can not get passionate about, how do I tell him? And then there's the idea that you MUST read otherwise your friend will hurt us ... All that is true, and I must say that I have tried in part I, of course before reading the book.
Per prima cosa devo dire che appena cominciato, ho dimenticato l’autore - scusa, Alfonso - e mi sono lasciata prendere dalla storia e dai personaggi: non è solo un giallo a carattere scientifico anche se i temi trattati sono più che attuali, quello che colpisce di più è l’umanità dei personaggi, di tutti, non solo del dott. Grahm o di suor Mary che rappresentano le due figure fondamentali alla storia, ma tutti, anche coloro che appaiono per brevi momenti sono descritti con una varietà di sfaccettature che li rendono vicini al lettore, e che soprattutto ci permettono di comprendere le loro scelte per sbagliate che siano.
Devo dire che questo era un ulteriore scoglio: un giallo non solo scientifico, ma soprattutto - direi - etico … anche in questo caso mi sono domandata che posizione prendere? Se la storia non coinciderà con il nostro pensiero in merito? conoscendo un po’ Alfonso sull’idea di fondo non sbagliavo, però è necessario sottolineare anche in questo la sua capacità di lasciare il lettore alle sue opinioni e scelte: ad una lettura approfondita appare chiara l’opinione dell’autore, ma questa non tende in alcun modo a cercare di influenzare o giudicare quelle which are the ideas of the reader and this - according to which a Bibliomania - is a sign of great respect for those who are about to read a story.
is for this reason that in addition to thank Alfonso for inviting me to the presentation of his book, I want to say thanks for taking me on a journey very pleasant and me made known characters with whom it is not always easy to agree or agree with the choices, but which have their own identity and that put us clearly and strongly in the face of questions that each of us sooner or later is face.
