Il grande successo dell’ “Arlecchino dirozzato dall’amore” mise in evidenza quella bontà naturale dell’uomo che fu espressa dalla filosofia di Jean-Jacques Rousseau e che opporrà l’uomo primitivo all’uomo civilizzato.
Con Marivaux e Beaumarchais, la commedia francese del XVIII secolo diventa capolavoro.
Sebbene Marivaux ha certamente molto ricordato, molto preso da altri, il suo genio è tuttavia perfettamente originale.
Aggraziato, romanzesco, maestro nell’arte del conversare che egli introduced in his dialogues, make, undo and redo the intrigues of his light comedies with happy grace and means sometimes cruel, always with imagination and liveliness.
